The seat I had was exceptionally good, first rows in front of the PA. In addition, I could move a few meters away
from the rest of the audience so that applauses were less clear in the recording. If you ask me for a comment on this show, it is difficult to say. I've seen U2 in different situations, first when they were still a cult band in 1985 and then
through its change till they were a band playing in stadiums. I liked their show very much but U2 could give their best
in more intimate situations, if you know what I mean.
Mysterious Ways had its premiere on tour that evening and it was dedicated to Johnny Hallyday who was attending the show.
Johnny knows this stadium very well since he had sold it out several times in the past, including a very recent farewell performance a few months ago.
So here it is, this is my version of the 2nd night in Paris and it sounds very good to my ears.

Concert :
Surprise ou pas surprise ? On était beaucoup à attendre ce qu’allait donner ce deuxième concert. Bien meilleur que la veille sans aucun doute. Et
pourtant les changements n’ont pas été des plus conséquents. Notons tout de même la première apparition de “Mysterious Ways”, enfin une version courte, car
amputée de son solo. Une question donc : pourquoi avoir enlevé le solo ?? Comment Edge a t-il pu faire ça, c’est un sacrilège. C’est marrant car je me faisais
la réflexion que depuis le ZooTV tour, cette chanson perdait en intensité : plus d’intro, Bono qui ne monte plus dans les aigus, bref, un sort à la “With or
Without You”... Et pourtant, même raccourcis, c’est un véritable plaisir de l’entendre (première fois pour ma part). Première fois également pour “Stuck”,
version acoustique. Version sympathique, mais quitte à jouer en acoustique, le répertoire est quand même bien fourni et je l’aurai bien échangée contre un
petit “Staring at the Sun”, “In god’s country” ou même “People get ready”.
Bref, un très bon concert, certainement grâce à un public plus “chaud” que la veille, ce qui a clairement eu de l’influence sur la volonté du groupe de
hausser le niveau !
Son :
J’avoue ne pas avoir été vraiment satisfait du son de la veille. Du coup, j’ai tenté de trouver une fréquence plus équilibrée. Ce qui fut le cas. Plus de
guitare, moins de métronome et de batterie, mais des commentaires de temps à autres. Très certainement pour Edge (“Magnificent” / “Unknown Caller” / “City
of Blinding Lights” / “Ultraviolet (Light My Way”). Mais bien qu’avec une son plus équilibré, la fréquence était plus instable que la veille. Du coup, le
son est moins clean avec plus d’intérférences (surtout sur “Sunday Bloody Sunday”). J’ai testé quelques fréquences pendant “Space Oddity”, on peut donc
entendre quelques petits sauts liés au passage d’une fréquence à l’autre.
Interférences :
“Breathe” une légère au moment du dernier refrain
"Beautiful Day” pendant l’intro de la chanson
“Mysterious Ways” au tout début de la chanson et à la fin, lorsque Bono parle
“Angel of Harlem” au tout début
“The Unforgettable Fire” un petit craquement au moment du dernier refrain
“I’ll Go Crazy If I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight” interférence à partir du deuxième refrain jusqu’au début de l’outtro
“Sunday Bloody Sunday” à partir du deuxième refrain interférence de fond (beaucoup par moment)
“Pride (In the Name of Love)” surtout au moment du deuxième refrain et à la fin sur les “ohoho”
“MLK” au milieu de la chanson
“Walk on” au début
“Desmond Tutu Speech” au début
“Where the Streets Have no Name” à la toute fin et sur le speech avant “One”
“One” au début et un peu pendant le rappel
“With or Without You” au début et au milieu de la chanson et pendant le discours de remerciement.
